Grand food expert or not?Foodie and masterchef presenter Gregg Wallace appeared as a guest contextant yesterday on the new (to me) show The Big Food Fight, presented by Sue Perkins. His partner was Janet Street-Porter, and their opponents were Kirstie Allsop (of various properties’ related programs fame) and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (another national food expert). When presenter Sue Perkins asked guest Kirstie Allsop “We know you are a classy bird, but you have 20 seconds to name 10 items in the McDonald’s menu”, Allsop failed miserbly to go past the Big Mac and even came up with a MacEgg that we soon expect to see featured in MD menus. Janet Street-Porter declared: “I have never never eaten in a MD” to which Gregg Wallace, alleged food expert, declared: “If the whole world didn’t love MD, it would not exist. Everybody loves MD, you are a minority”, which was followed by an embaressed silence of all the other people present and by a bitchy remark by his game partner Janet Street-Porter. A second incident took place later , during a test which consisted in guessing the unusual (to say the least) ingredients of a sausage. Gregg Wallace, alleged foodie and masterchef presenter, presented (unknowingly) with a grind of fish, chips and mashed peas, said: “I like it”, eating at least 2 mouthful of the “thing”. This while his partner Janet Street-Porter not only didn’t dare taste it, guessing the poisonous concoction just from its smell, but she also repremended him saying: “This is enough to emigrate”, eventually snatching the sausage from the alleged foody and throwing it under the desk while saying: “Put it down, love, you’re embarassing yourself”. Has Gregg Wallace fallen from the heavens of foodies? 1 comment to Grand food expert or not? |
