movie review: Enter the void

surprisingly this almost 3hr movie has a plot. which is not particularly relevant. in fact this movie is so shocking in its visual language, in its time development, in the use of CGI to create real digital art rather than simple special effects, that the loose plot is really secondary.

it is a movie that will test your patience, your resilience, your acceptance of new and extreme forms of expression. It is a movie or repetitions, returns, it cycles around points of attraction that are inevitably strong gravitational entities of a non-story. it will test how ready you are for a truly extreme “arthouse” film, like they call it in the US.

Gaspar Noe himself in presenting this movie said: “some will love it, some will hate it; some will get aroused and those of you who have played with drugs will probably be reminded of that experience; some people who have seen have told me so; other, who had never played with drugs have told me: I will never ever touch a drug in my life”.

When asked if he would advise people to watch this movie (or any of his movies) under the influence of drugs, he answered, without showing the usual PC fear of breaking the law, that it’s a personal thing. and that sometimes you can induce a state similar to that of certain drugs just with a stroboscopic light.

this is a movie of great extremes and if you are truly committed like I am to taste all flavors of cinema, than don’t miss the opportunity to watch it, but be prepared for some really extreme stuff.
