book review: How I reversed my hashimoto’s thyroiditis hypothyrodism, by Robert Dirgo

This book is over 120 pages long; however, 60 pages contain forms that the reader could fill with certain details on a daily bases to keep a diary.
There are 5 different forms repeated 12 times to cover 12 weeks. If mr. Dirgo had been familiar with the invention of the copy machine, it would have been enough to print the 5 forms only once and let people copy them as many times as they wanted.
Or perhaps Mr Dirgo, who seems to be familiar with another recent invention, the Internet, could have provided this forms in electronic format for people to download.
It would have saved me money (a smaller book would’ve had to cost less) and it would have spared few trees.
Because I myself suffer of Hashimoto Thyroiditis, I had high hopes for this book.
Unfortunately the book doesn’t delivery.
For example, one funny thing is that first Mr Dirgo explains how taking food supplements had possibly contributed to the sickness, then he goes on to suggest other supplements as a solution.
It’s true the second set is more natural stuff, but it’s still “stuff”. One of this supplements is quite funny, because it is an algae that God has blessed America with! Yes, this is an algae that only grows in the sacred and pure waters of some obscure lake in Oregon!! It is an all American product and it resembles breast milk!
Mr. Dirgo is happy to stuff himself with this Algae, and to recommend it, however there are other who don’t share the same enthusiasm about this algae, like you could read, for example, in THIS article. Suffice to say that this algae has been the object of legal disputes, like class actions against the manufacturers (although it’s true that in the United States of America there is little that doesn’t cause legal disputes).

The book is really disappointing, Mr. Dirgo rushes to his conclusions and he declares himself winner too soon to be true.

There was also something else that I found strange in this book: Mr. Dirgo didn’t get the type of symptoms that I got from Hashimoto, which were a bit more serious that just feeling sluggish…

I started to have these episodes, especially at night, where I would wake up with my heart beating as if I had been running; in fact at first I thought something was wrong with my heart and I was going to have a heart attack. Besides, for 2 or 3 months I kept falling ill with a cold or flu again and again, and my immune system seemed to be very weak, which scared me even more because nowadays anything wrong with the immune is easily related to the terrible plague that I won’t even name.. When I went to the doctor I was really scared but I would soon be absolutely shocked to learn that I had an auto-immune syndrome where my antibodies had gone nuts and where attacking a very vital organ. I had no prior knowledge of these sorts of syndromes.

I haven’t really learned much from this book: it goes over the surface of very complex and delicate problems and rushes to its conclusions too soon.

If all of this wasn’t enough, I have had to endure another painful discover: that I share something in common with the greatest living criminal on earth, george w. bush, the texan butcher who has driven the world into a new dark age of death and destruction. yes, g. w. bush too is a member of the hashimoto club. Now that is a reason to try to heal from hashimoto thyroiditis!
