can you imagine riding the streets of London with one of this (a PTEROSAIL)?

recently i have been cycling in London thanks to the Mayor’s bicycle scheme.

however it ain’t nice. the streets of london are no friends of the bicycle and the current bicycle lanes arrangements is a JOKE.

basically you need to be a bit crazy and suicidal to cycle regularly and longer distance in london.

when a friend showed me this new type of bicycle, i pictured for a minute in my head many of these things riding the  streets of london, as they are now, congested with vile traffic. it would be a massacre!

If there were many bikes on the roads in London you wouldn’t have a massacre, you would have power. Power in numbers my friend.

I have ridden my bike in London and the only thing that bothered me being from america where we ride on the right side of the road was having to ride on the left side of the road. It took a little while to get used to. Riding bikes is the most efficient way to travel in London. I remember when I was on the bus in London once, watching people walking on the side walk going at the same pace as the bus. If Londoners don’t take to the streets on bikes traffic congestion will only get worse.

despite the mayor is trying to characterise london as a bicycle friendly place, and increase and encourage people to cycle in london, and despite the number of cyclist has gone up exponentially since 2004, london remains fundamentally a bicycle unfriendly place. the way of the bicycle in london is the based on the usual british attitude of “suck it up”. it’s a darwinist culture of survivalism, sometimes it feels like the war never ended for the brits. they don’t complain, they don’t protest, they don’t expect anything from the powers-that-be. however hard are the living conditions, however inhumans the life style is, they cope with it.
this attitude is alien to someone like me that comes from the deep south of europe, almost afrika.
i would rather complain, fight for proper cycle lanes, clog the already clogged system, go on strike, refuse to live this unbearable life style.
anyway the bottom line is that, and you know it, london ain’t no amsterdam, the bicycle is still alien to the culture of vehicles and most drivers, especially cab drivers and bus drivers, have an almost homicidal attitude towards cyclist.
