how to enable verbose booting in mac os X

On Intel platform:

sudo nvram boot-args=”-v”

Use:

sudo nvram -p

to view the content of the nvram

On older PPC platform, one would have used the Open Firmware command. At the open boot prompt:

> setenv boot-args -v

My wife needs Vectorworks, an old copy, on her MacBook Pro 15″. But she is running Lion. When she bought her laptop she received a free Lion upgrade that she installed herself via the Apple Store.
